A Short Drive From Portland Oregon Is The PNW's Most Memorable Hike

There are many awesome, popular hikes in the Portland, OR area, but one hike in particular is incredibly unique.

The Oneonta Gorge hike is a very popular hike that can be taken any time of year. The only requirement is that you must take the hike when the water levels are low.

The reason for this is because there is no trail other than the river bed. You actually hike up the river itself! While the hike is a short, easy one, you WiLL get wet! The water in the creek can get 3 feet deep or more. So, even though this is a short, easy hike, it's not advisable to bring small children

But, wading through the water is well worth it because the reward at the end is THE FALLS! It's a beautiful sight!

Take a lot of photos to remember it by...if your camera didn't get too wet. Once you're ready to leave, just follow the route back to the bridge.

If you still feel like hiking, there is another short hike nearby that will take you to the top of the gorge that you just hiked.

You can now also walk through the Oneota tunnel. This historic tunnel allows you to walk through basalt rock that is an estimated 25 million years old! The hike is easy to get to as it is just off the Columbia River Highway. There is no permit needed to park.
