Here's How To Help Those Impacted By The California Fires
California is currently suffering through three terrible wildfires, the Hill, Camp, and Woolsey fires. The Camp Fire alone has claimed the lives of more than 50 people and nearly 300 more are considered missing. More than 7,000 homes and structures have been burned. This makes it the third deadliest wildfire in history.
People in California and around the world have jumped into action to give what they can to those impacted by these terrible fires, but knowing exactly the right way to help can be difficult. Here are a few resources we recommend you check out if you’d like to help.
The Red Cross has set up shelters around the state of California as well as numerous food sites to make sure that those displaced by the fires have a warm meal and a place to sleep. Donors may request that their money goes specifically to people impacted by these fires. You can donate at redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Baby2Baby is an organization currently working to get high-need items to babies and children who have been displaced by the fires in California. They supply things like wipes, diapers, blankets, and other basic essentials that babies and children require. You can purchase items from their registry here.
The LA Fire Department Foundation supports firefighters who are on the front lines of these fires directly. They help supply things like hydration backpacks to keep first responders hydrated and safe during tough fires.
Other worthy organizations to consider are the CCF Wildfire Relief Fund, who support recovery efforts from major California wildfires, the United Way of Greater Los Angeles and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, who both are giving to fire relief funds, and the Human Society of Ventura County, which is housing animals that have been evacuated from the Hill and Woolsey Fires.
