Humans are responsible for the removal of 15 billion trees a year, at least according to a group of scientists tasked with assessing how many trees there are and their rate of destruction.

We like trees (as if you couldn't tell.) We all recognize them as vital to the health of our cities and our planet as well. But there are some pretty uncommon reasons to love a tree. Here's eight:

Not being the least bit artistic, the minds of artists have always fascinated me. Where do they come up with such beautiful, unusual, creative masterpieces? Giuseppe Penone is one of those artists. The bronze sculpture he affixed to a tree at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, TX in 1968 is creative genius!

Two unlikely environmental heroes have been found in China! Jia Wenqi, a 53 year old armless man, and Jia Haixia, a 53 year old blind man, have planted over 10,000 trees in the last 10 years, both in their village and the surrounding area.

Planting that many trees in 10 years is a feat in and of itself. The fact that these two disabled men have accomplished this amazing undertaking is truly incredible!

Recently, researchers from the US Forest Service and the Davey Institute decided to sit down and calculate how many lives per year urban forests help to save.

The reasoning behind the study came about due to some Forest Service colleagues finding a direct correlation between the number of deaths per year and tree loss.

We are honored to announce that, with your help, tentree has planted its 10 millionth tree. This is an exciting milestone because we know it's just a drop in the bucket of what we can do together.

At tentree, we're all about planting trees, but your impact goes beyond that. Our trees are able to revitalize local economies by providing sustainable wood as well as steady employment where we do our work.
