This Free Cookbook Is Your Ultimate Guide To No-Waste Cooking
When it comes time to clean out your fridge, how often do you find yourself throwing away food that's past its prime? How about food that's covered in mold and slime? Do you ever feel guilty tossing all of that once-good food?
We've all been there before - no one feels good about throwing out what could have been perfectly good food. And it turns out, it's a pretty big problem. In the United States, it's estimated that 30-40 percent of the food supply is wasted. That is an absolutely staggering amount of food simply being tossed out!
But a cool new cookbook that's free for anyone to download is aiming to push back on this epic quantity of food being wasted, one kitchen at a time. The University of Guelph's Family Health Study has published Rock What You’ve Got: Recipes for Preventing Food Waste, and you can download the PDF here.
The cookbook uses a few strategies to reduce food waste. Among them are what they call 2-in-1 recipes that teach you to take the leftovers from one meal and cook them into the next one. In essence, today's dinner also becomes part of tomorrow's dinner. Pretty smart, right?
They also provide 100% zero-waste recipes that focus on using parts of food that might otherwise be thrown away as well as fridge clean-out recipes that give you options to swap out different ingredients based on what you have.
These recipes aren't your basic mac and cheese recipes too. The book features some pretty awesome looking dinners, like apple burgers with potatoes and salad, roasted chicken with sweet peppers that you later make into roasted pepper and chicken sandwiches, and so much more.
The book features grocery shopping and planning tips, tips on how to keep your food fresh, organizational ideas, and a total of 31 fresh, delicious, and healthy recipes.
