The holidays are a time of giving, and each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, a social media campaign kicks off to celebrate humanitarianism. According to givingtuesday.org, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Giving Tuesday is now in its 7th year. It was created by the team at Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact to celebrate and encourage giving your time and donations. More than 250 countries have participated with more than $300 million given. Here at tentree, we consider giving back to the community, and to the Earth, to be one of our core business principles. It’s why we source sustainable materials, maintain an ethical supply chain, and plant 10 trees for each item purchased.

At tentree we're committed to helping revitalize forests and communities that are affected from forest fires. Shortly before the holiday season began... horrible wildfires changed the lives of thousands of people in California. These fires amount to some of the deadliest and most destructive fires in California’s history. We were shocked by the magnitude of destruction not just to some of the most beautiful forests, but the human toll as well. So far, more 20,000 structures have been destroyed and possibly as many as 1,000 people are still considered missing.

That’s why for Giving Tuesday, we will be donating 20% of our proceeds to the California Fire Foundation’s SAVE program. SAVE, Supplying Aid To Victims Of Emergency) is a part of the California Fire Foundation’s mission to assist victims of fires and other natural disasters that take place in California. The California Fire Foundation has been providing aid to those who have suffered losses in the Camp and Woolsey fires.

Many of those who lost their homes have nothing but the clothes on their back. SAVE is helping provide emergency, short-term financial aid to the victims of these fires. They’re able to provide $250 gift cards to families to help pay for basic necessities like food, medication, and clothing.

Eventually, we hope to partner up with tree planting groups in California to help replant these forests. Because of how forests naturally regenerate, it will likely be a couple years before we can begin working with planting organizations in California to replant, but we are committed to help bring those forests back.
