This Earth Hour, Let’s Disconnect Together

Who: Anyone and everyone around the world with access to electricity. What: An hour that can change decades. All you have to do is turn off your lights. Where: Globally. When: 8:30 pm on March 27th, 2021. Why: Earth Hour started as a symbolic act of activism in 2007, that has since grown monumental in size and is now one of the largest grassroots movements for the environment currently. Taking place on the last Sunday in March, millions of people from over 180 different countries partake in the powerful act of switching off their lights for an hour, for the environment. Earth Hour’s reach is wide and deep and has had evocative effects— not only does it connect the global world over a single cause, but it also creates positive legislative changes that benefit our environment. Join us this Earth Hour in turning off your lights, and turning on your awareness and empathy for the Planet that houses us.

5 Simple Things You Can Do During Earth Hour

Take a Walk: grab your pooch (or your friend’s pooch), put on your favourite podcast, and go go go. Beach Clean Up: call up a friend or two (safely, of course), and take to your local beach. Pick up as much garbage as you can in the hour— you might be shocked at what you see. Candle-Lit Dinner: with yourself, your partner, your roommate, your dog, you get the point. Make it a thing. Romance isn’t dead. Try Something New: it turns out everyone was right and trying new things is actually really rewarding. Here are a few new things we’ve been dabbling with: golf, tennis, acrylic painting, and puzzling. Take a Nap: the lights are off, the mood is set, close your eyes, and drift off into dreamland. And remember, Earth Hour aims to increase awareness about the current climate crisis in a way that is accessible and bite-size—Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was solving the global climate crisis.
