I didn't realize the jacket was just a shell but the material seems to be water repelent, and I'm always dry underneath. I haven't tested it out camping or hiking but it works well enough walking around the city. I've got wide shoulders and long arms, and I ordered the large, and that fits well :)it fits another thick layer of clothing under it. I dig the deep side pockets and the middle zip-up pocket with the key clasp. The hood is also, just barely, large enough that it fits over another sweater hood but it works.

I bought this for my boyfriend after he lost a similar one in New Zealand a few years ago. He absolutely loves him and it fits perfectly. It is true to size so I don't recommend sizing up or down. It is unlined though so if you want to wear it for warmth keep that in mind you may want to layer underneath and that's where sizing up would be nice.
